Over the last few months, we’ve spent a lot of time searching for complimentary partners to KeyCreator that would benefit our customers’ needs. It is interesting to see how well respected KeyCreator and Kubotek is throughout the CAD/PLM market. Not only have we been reaching out to partners, but in turn, we are also being sought out. What it comes down to is there are a large number of independent technology providers that have not sold out to the large corporate companies like Dassault, Siemens, AutoDesk or PTC. I find that some of the best in class technology are smaller companies like Kubotek and they are very willing to work with us. After all, KeyCreator is considered the leader in 3D direct modeling with a 10% increase in sales during 2009. I believe this puts us in a very favorable position. When I ask our partners why they are looking to work with Kubotek, they similarly believe that 3D direct modeling is a better compliment to their technology and the future of CAD. It is nice to see the market continue to come around to our way of thinking!
Another area where we are putting more energy into is education. We realize the future users of our technology are in high school, college and in some instances being introduced to CAD as young as middle school and grade school. Since February, we have granted and committed to over 300 licenses of KeyCreator to SkillsUSA, colleges, high schools and students. Our philosophy is that any student, educator or institution who wants to use KeyCreator should not have limited access to the software. In some instances, it is our users who have initiated feeder schools to start using KeyCreator. Whenever this is the case, we are more than willing to work with the school to get them up and running and training students in KeyCreator. We currently have complete school districts teaching KeyCreator. And recently, Ivy Tech Community College started training students with KeyCreator in their Advanced Manufacturing program thanks to Don Bedwell a long time user. Ivy Tech Community College is the nation's largest state-wide community college with single accreditation. It is Indiana’s largest public post-secondary institution serving more than 130,000 students a year. The Advanced Manufacturing program is designed to prepare students for the modern manufacturing environment and is only one of more than 150 programs and concentrations offered.
Version 10 development is ongoing and we are gearing up to release a service and performance patch. We continue to focus on doing a better job licensing and communicating with our customers and the public. There is a lot of positive activity taking place within Kubotek and it cannot be fully appreciated unless we are communicating. As always, please feel free to reach out to us with your suggestions and continue to spread the word about KeyCreator. Our users are our best advocates and they will continue to propel us forward. We are seeing signs of spring here in New England and feel the dark days of 2009 are behind us with a bright outlook for 2010.

Frequently Asked Support Question |
|
| |
Q. In KeyCreator version 9, when you open a file that was created in an earlier version a message will be shown “A part was last saved in an older version. Converting data from the old format. This may take several minutes.” What is this?
A. This is not an error. It’s to inform you KeyCreator is updating your file to version 9 format. Kubotek USA’s Support team recommends that you save the file right away and then start modeling. If you do experience an error after the conversion, please contact your local VAR for support.

Reviews of 64-bit Windows 7 by early adopters seam to be consistently positive – a big turn around from attitudes about Vista. It looks like this is going to be the main OS over the next few years and will begin to replace XP in significant numbers later this year. We’ve been getting quite a few questions lately about KeyCreator compatibility with Windows 7 and 64-bit.
KeyCreator 9 (a 32-bit program) is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. However, a significant number of Windows 7 users have reported display problems and even crashes with some of the KeyCreator default graphics settings. Kubotek is expecting to publish a Technote on recommended graphics settings in Windows 7 by late March. If you are purchasing new PCs, we recommend selecting the Windows XP option which includes an anytime (one way) upgrade to Windows 7. This is the most stable option for now, and also looks to the near future in which we expect Windows 7 to be king.
Kubotek is also in the process of setting up performance tests to quantify the benefits of 64-bit Windows 7 over 32-bit Windows XP. Initial tests have uncovered that the Microsoft-supported Direct3D graphics has passed OpenGL graphics in performance. We will also be looking at new solid state drives vs. traditional hard drives. A major impetus for this thorough performance testing is the promise of a fully multi-threaded 64-bit version of KeyCreator planned for a fall release. We suspect that the advantage of accessing unrestricted amounts of RAM from a 64-bit program will make an enormous difference in performance with large files. The results of these tests will be published by Kubotek when complete.
