KUBOTEK: FREEFORM MODELING SPEEDS ENGINEERING TASKS
Productivity Seminar at MasterGraphics Event Demonstrates the Power of Pure Geometry

Marlborough, MA - June 2, 2005 - Kubotek USA is sharing productivity-enhancing secrets at the Tenth Annual "Winning Through Change" event presented by MasterGraphics, Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at the Country Springs Hotel, Pewaukee, WI. "Winning Through Change" is a conference and exposition that draws several hundred MasterGraphics customers and prospects annually. MasterGraphics resells Kubotek KeyCreator design and engineering software.

"In today's CAD market there are two primary solid modeling paradigms: history-constrained parametric and freeform/direct modeling," said Robert Bean, Kubotek USA chief operating officer and one of the scheduled presenters. "By using direct modeling, engineers and designers can simplify the design process while reducing time spent on common engineering tasks for manufacturing.

"CAD vendors are at last acknowledging that parametric modeling and history-based designing can actually slow down design work," continued Bean. "Recently, the understanding of this issue has led several CAD vendors to begin offering something they call 'direct editing' of models without the need to access the history tree. This approach offers the ability to easily import and modify models to accelerate the design and manufacturing process. Direct modelers are the perfect complement to parametric feature based modelers like SolidWorks or Inventor"

The class, "The Power of Freeform/Explicit Hybrid" will be conducted by Bean and John McCullough, product manager, Kubotek USA. The seminar will present an overview of the strengths of freeform/explicit hybrid modeling for both manufacturing and design. Emphasis will be placed on utilization of geometry from virtually any CAD format. Practical freeform modeling techniques will be demonstrated using KeyCreator (formerly CADKEY) software. Demonstrations will include:

  • Conversion of a 2D drawing into a 3D solid model
  • Extracting mold components from a solid model design
  • Shape creation using hybrid modeling techniques
  • File referencing and assembly management
  • Face editing VS history/constraint based editing
  • Data translation examples will include UG, CATIA, Pro/ENGINEER, SolidWorks, Inventor and others
Kubotek KeyCreator builds on the heritage of CADKEY, the first true 3D MCAD software for the desktop. KeyCreator combines both the latest in geometry-based design and modeling technology, and a legacy of success in helping customers in the design of tooling, complex machinery, fixtures, molds, and dies in a multitude of product development industries including automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, sports equipment, medical device, and many more.

The KeyCreator creation engineering product line includes multidimensional design and drafting, NC programming and reverse engineering capabilities. The rapidly expanding product line features the company's unique geometry-based foundation with Direct Feature EditingT and sophisticated deformation techniques. These capabilities are particularly useful for design teams working with advanced designs of solid models because KeyCreator blends surface, solids and wireframe modeling, allowing easy modification and editing functionality.
