Marlborough, MA-September 8, 2005 - - Kubotek USA, manufacturer of KeyCreator software (formerly CADKEY), will drive a discussion around pervasive interoperability issues in the computer-aided design (CAD) industry on the MyTechnologyLawer Radio Show on September 13, 2005 at 4pm EDT.
Robert Bean, COO of Kubotek USA, will be joined by industry experts Evan Yares, president of the Open Design Alliance (www.opendesign.com) and Ken Versprille, partner at Collaborative Product Development Associates, LLC (www.cpd-associates.com) in an open-forum dialogue on CAD interoperability and its impact on large manufacturers such as the automotive and aviation industries, smaller 'job shops', and the supply chain.

In June, Kubotek USA revealed the results of Part 1 of its 2005 CAD Interoperability Survey. The survey of more than 1,250 CAD managers showed that that there are still widespread issues around interoperability:
- More than 80 percent of respondents re-use data and models; very few respondents work from scratch.
- There is no de facto standard format for sharing of CAD models. Even industry standards like IGES and STEP do not command a large percentage of the market.
- Only 30 percent of the respondents always received CAD models from co-workers in their preferred format.
- Only 6 percent of the respondents always received models from other companies in their preferred format.
- Almost half need to use 3 or more CAD tools per month.
Bean, Yares and Versprille will share their unique perspectives on this significant industry roadblock, including its origins; how CAD vendors have created the problem and why they're reluctant to solve it; currently available tools; and potential future solutions, including legislative and regulatory actions.
MyTechnologyLawer.com syndicates weekly, 1-hour radio shows on technology, technology law, business and policy, with guests from the public and private sector with Host Scott Draughon.
