VAN DAM CUSTOM BOATS TO BE FEATURED ON HD THEATER’S AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN

December 17, 2009 - HD Theater, one of Discovery Communication’s premiere HD television networks, contacted Steve Van Dam to film a high definition documentary about the custom one-off wooden boats designed and built by his company in Boyne City, Michigan.  The results will be shown in AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN, which premieres on HD Theater on Thursday, December 31 from 9-10 PM ET.

A newly designed 30’ cold molded mahogany runabout to be delivered to Geneva Lake, Wisconsin was chosen as the subject for AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN, which is hosted by Steve Thomas (This Old House, Renovation Nation).  With extensive boat building experience, Thomas reviewed Van Dam’s time tested cold molding techniques and occasionally rolled up his sleeves to lend a hand in the boat’s construction.

From the first meeting with the client, all through design, construction, sea-trials and a hair-raising delivery, multiple high definition cameras were there to capture the spirit and craftsmanship that goes into every facet of a custom Van Dam boat’s creation.

The documentary culminates with a beautiful launch ceremony hosted by Gage Marine and aerial photography of the newly launched runabout plying the waters of Geneva Lake, Wisconsin.
