3D models help promote rapid understanding of a design by allowing quick
observation from any angle or user-controlled dynamic rotation. Using solids,
it is even possible to see the inside of parts and assemblies through
sectioning and transparency techniques. This type of quick understanding is
especially important when designs are reviewed by tooling and production
engineers who need to see more than the part as-is, but how it interacts with
other parts, and any challenges in the ability to build. For product designers,
the importance of conducting reviews with sales and marketing early in the
process is essential. Kubotek 3D model visualization tools provide each of the
design and manufacturing teams an optimal solution.
Shading
Kubotek viewing technology provides an extensive set of display options for
shading models including hidden lines removed/dashed, plain wireframe, shaded
with or without edges. Looking over models in different views and using various
display modes is the fastest way to gain initial understanding of a design and
also do a first pass inspection. For example shaded display modes use
splintered shading to show overlapping face-face interferences which are a
potential problem and the only visual clue of some corrupt face problems on
imported models are edges that extend too far off the model.
Kubotek viewing technology also includes cosmetic thread capabilities that
allow fasteners to appear with helical threads without actually weighing down
the model with helical faces on each fastener.

In order to get a better understanding of what is going on in crowded or obstructed view areas of a 3D model, Kubotek provides a quick cutting plane view tool that temporarily slices the model and removes the front so that a clear view of the interior is provided. Users can reposition and rotate this transparent plane as needed to see interior details of interest.

Kubotek visualization technology includes the ability to spotlight material properties such as glossiness, simple shadows, background images, and texture or environmental mapping to provide a basic level of photographic studio type scene setup. These capabilities aid in presentation and selling of product designs at the virtual prototyping stage.

By displaying Zebra Lines on a model, a designer can quickly evaluate the quality of any model. Designers can see how light will follow the shape of the model. Also check the continuity of the surface/face transitions and find any defects in the surfaces and faces. This tool is critical for product design and also useful to check imported parts for problems.
